Modern & Jazz
Modern Theatre Dance, is a fun technical dance style which is becoming ever more popular at SSD. Classes are designed to assist balance, strength, coordination, stamina and performativity in students, and classes build in integrity through our 4 levels. Classes are open to students aged 3yrs and above.
All classes follow the ISTD dance syllabi with examinations on offer from the entry level Primary. Grades 1-3 and Grades 4-5 all come with the ISTDs usual Level 1 or 2 qualification and students studying the vocational Level 3 (Grade 6-Advanced 2) receive UCAS points with the completion of each exam. All examinations are recognised by Ofqual and the DofE.
Our Jazz classes are ever popular at SSD, we run non syllabus classes which teach a series of technical elements such as kicks, turns and leaps, through fun but challenging combinations designed to support the bodies muscle memory. Our Jazz classes are fast paced and build on strength, flexibility and stamina as well as engaging our dancers with popular styles including Commercial, Fosse, MT and Lyrical. All classes include an intense conditioning style warm up, to prepare them for the work ahead.
Due to the nature of our classes, we only offer these classes to students aged 8yrs and above who also study Modern classes here at SSD, at the minimum Grade 1 level. Our class timetable has been carefully planned to allow all Modern students an opportunity to take up these classes.
