Performances & Events

SSD are proud to not only offer high quality dance training but also a diary full of opportunities for our dancers. From performances to workshops and masterclasses, and auditions to outings, we provide our dancers not only with the tools to succeed but the opportunities to showcase their success.

Company Productions

SSD run its full company production every 2-3 years. These showcases offer every student the opportunity to perform and come together as one. Each production is themed, and students are invited to perform in one routine for each class they study.

Our next showcase ‘Dancing Through Movies’ will take place on Saturday 28th June 2025 at Thornden Hall, Chandlers Ford. More information will be emailed in due course.

Awards Evening

In addition to our full company production, SSD are delighted to hold an annual Celebration and Awards Presentation Evening. This event bring all SSD students together for one big celebration of all things SSD. We celebrate all the performance opportunities our students have taken part in, the success of our students exams results, and we award students for choosing to study at SSD. This is in addition to our Special recognition awards which sees SSD awarding students for Effort and Achievement in classes, Improvement, Inspiration and Performance, Plus we crown our Dancer of the Year with a bursary to use on our holiday intensives throughout the year.

Show Team

The SSD Show Team meet weekly to learn and rehearse a number of routines to perform at smaller events across the south, from school fetes to charity and guest performances. The Team is made up of strong performers with a real passion for performing.

Entry to the Show Team is via audition, which is held each summer. For legal reasons we can only offer spaces to students aged 7yrs and above. The audition comprises of a follow me style warm up, followed by a series of technical combinations and two short routines of contrasting styles.

Festival Team

The SSD Festival Team, meet regularly for one to one tuition to work on a number of routines which reflect their individual strengths and performance styles. The Festival Team head out regularly to perform and compete across the south, with all performers hoping to qualify for the All England Regional and Grand Finals.

Entry to the Festival Team is by Invitation from the principal.

Large Scale Performances

SSD also run 1-2 bigger performance opportunities each year, which are open to all dancers usually aged 6yrs and up. These events give SSD students opportunities to perform in front of large audiences and at major events across the UK and beyond. These opportunities usually come at an additional cost but give our students memories that last a lifetime.

Disneyland Paris – Alton Towers – Tottenham Hotspur Stadium – Thorpe Park – Shaftesbury Theatre – Wembley Stadium

Events

SSD run a series of inhouse holiday workshops and technical intensives which allow dancers to continue dancing through the holidays, we often invite guest teachers to deliver their industry expertise, and most of our workshops are themed around a central story, show or dance technique.

SSD also offer a range of outings to our dancers from live theatre to professional workshops and masterclasses. Two of the biggest highlights of the year is our annual outing to the Move It dance exhibition each March, and to the Pantomime each Christmas.

Our students embrace these opportunities and look forward to learning and being inspired by the outside Dance Arts Community.
